Mars Transit in Cancer 2026: 19 September to early November — What It Means for All 12 Signs

Mars enters Cancer on 19 September 2026 and stays there through at least 4 November, moving to Leo on 13 November. Cancer is Mars's debilitation sign, but Jupiter shares the sign until 31 October — here is what it means for all 12 Moon signs.

According to our panchang engine (sidereal zodiac, Lahiri ayanamsha), Mars enters Cancer (Kark) on 19 September 2026 and stays there through at least 4 November 2026. Its next move, into Leo (Simha), is on 13 November 2026. Cancer is the sign of Mars's debilitation: the planet's natural drive works less directly here. Mars stays direct (no retrograde) for the whole stay, and Jupiter shares Cancer with it until 31 October.

When does Mars enter Cancer, and how long does it stay?

A transit (gochar) is a planet moving out of one sign and into the next. The key dates are below; our data for Mars in Cancer runs to 4 November, and the entry into Leo is recorded on 13 November.

What does a "debilitated" Mars actually mean?

Every planet has one sign where its nature is said to express itself least directly — its debilitation sign, or neech rashi. For Mars it is Cancer. Mars is about direct action and courage; Cancer is about feeling, home and security.

In the jyotish tradition this is not bad luck. Mars's energy travels through emotion instead of coming straight out. Decisions come from the heart rather than from momentum, and anger tends to turn inward. The rule of thumb: a little less push, a little more patience.

Mars and Jupiter together in Cancer — does that soften it?

From 19 September to 31 October, roughly six weeks, Jupiter and Mars are both in Cancer. Cancer is Jupiter's exaltation sign — where a planet is said to work at its best. Tradition has a concept called neech-bhanga, a cancelling of debilitation: the weakness eases when the sign's lord (here the Moon) or a planet exalted in that sign (here Jupiter) keeps the debilitated planet company.

On that basis many astrologers expect this debilitated Mars to be milder than usual. That is a traditional view, not a guarantee. After 31 October, once Jupiter's company is gone, the cautions below deserve a little more attention.

Mars transit in Cancer 2026: effect on all 12 signs (by Moon sign)

The readings below are by Moon sign (Chandra rashi) — the sign the Moon occupied at your birth. What matters is which house (bhav, a division of the birth chart) Cancer falls in, counted from your Moon sign. These are general indications in the language of likelihood; your dasha and the rest of your chart also have a say.

Aries (Mesh) — 4th house: home and peace of mind

Mars is Aries's own sign lord, and it moves into your 4th house — home, mother, property, vehicles and inner calm. Home-related work — repairs, redecorating, thoughts of shifting — tends to move. One focus: keeping the atmosphere at home steady. Slow down on: arguments with family and words spoken in anger — step back before a small disagreement grows.

Taurus (Vrishabh) — 3rd house: courage and effort

From Taurus, Cancer is the 3rd house — courage, siblings, communication and short trips. Tradition counts this a good place for Mars. One focus: picking up the tasks you have been postponing and saying what needs saying. Slow down on: sharp exchanges with siblings or neighbours, and rushing while travelling.

Gemini (Mithun) — 2nd house: speech and savings

For Gemini, Mars enters the 2nd house — family, speech, savings and food. A more active attitude to money is likely. One focus: a budget and one small saving habit. Slow down on: how you speak — a debilitated Mars can put an edge in the voice, especially at home. For the earlier chapter, see what changed during Mars's transit through Gemini in 2026.

Cancer (Kark) — 1st house: self and temperament

Mars sits directly on your Moon sign — the 1st house, meaning you yourself and your temperament. Energy rises, but so does emotional intensity. One focus: channel that energy into physical work or exercise so it does not turn into irritability. Slow down on: impulsive decisions and skipped sleep. Jupiter is in your sign until 31 October, and its steadiness is on your side.

Leo (Simha) — 12th house: expenses and rest

From Leo, Cancer is the 12th house — expenses, sleep, solitude and distant places. Mars works behind the scenes here. One focus: quietly closing unfinished tasks and fixing a proper rest routine. Slow down on: spending — think twice before big purchases, and put off decisions about loans. On 13 November Mars enters your own sign, and momentum returns on its own.

Virgo (Kanya) — 11th house: gains and friends

For Virgo, Mars transits the 11th house — gains, friends, elder siblings and wishes. Tradition counts this among Mars's better placements, and old contacts may become active again. One focus: your network — reach out to the people who can genuinely help. Slow down on: money dealings with friends, and rushing to take the lead in a group.

Libra (Tula) — 10th house: work and reputation

From Libra, Cancer is the 10th house — job, business, position and public standing. A new responsibility or a big project may land on your desk. One focus: full effort on the work that carries your name. Slow down on: friction with your boss or seniors — a debilitated Mars can turn a disagreement into an ego contest. Make your point without raising your voice.

Scorpio (Vrishchik) — 9th house: fortune and learning

Mars is Scorpio's sign lord, and it moves into your 9th house — fortune, dharma, teachers, father, long journeys and higher study. A pilgrimage, a new step in education, or a connection with a mentor are likely themes. One focus: learning — a course, a book or a guide. Slow down on: disagreements with your father or elders, and debates about belief.

Sagittarius (Dhanu) — 8th house: depth and change

From Sagittarius, Cancer is the 8th house — depth, research, sudden change and tidying up old matters. This is Mars's quiet, inward phase. One focus: putting long-tangled things in order — paperwork, insurance, shared property. Slow down on: any big decision or risk; deepening what is already running beats starting something new. Jupiter's company until 31 October is a support here.

Capricorn (Makar) — 7th house: partnerships

For Capricorn, Mars enters the 7th house — spouse, business partner and every one-to-one relationship. Relationships gain initiative, but also emotional reactions. One focus: hear your partner out fully before you answer. Slow down on: new partnership agreements and major relationship decisions — do not rush them. Where you see a partner's shortcoming, choose conversation over confrontation.

Aquarius (Kumbh) — 6th house: routine and competition

From Aquarius, Cancer is the 6th house — daily work, competition, colleagues and health habits. Tradition treats Mars in the 6th as helpful in competition: the fighting energy finds a proper outlet. One focus: fix the routine — meals on time, sleep and a little exercise. Slow down on: arguments with colleagues, and taking on small debts. Exam or interview preparation suits this window.

Pisces (Meen) — 5th house: children and creativity

For Pisces, Mars transits the 5th house — children, study, creativity and romance. Enthusiasm for learning, making things and time with children is likely to rise. One focus: one creative practice — writing, art, sport — a little every day. Slow down on: impulsiveness in romance and strictness with children; choose understanding over stubbornness. Put off speculative, gamble-like investments for now.

What should you slow down on during this transit?

This is not a list of warnings, just things to keep an eye on:

  • Decisions made in anger: a debilitated Mars holds anger in first and lets it out all at once. Sleep on any big reply.
  • Large property deals: Cancer is the sign of home. Read the paperwork twice, and do not say yes on emotion.
  • Starting new work: do not postpone what matters, but check the day's muhurta and Rahu Kaal first. Knowing why Rahu Kaal differs from city to city helps here.

Nothing needs to be bought. Tradition suggests only remembering Hanuman on Tuesdays and keeping a watch on your own temper.

How do you find your Moon sign?

Your Moon sign is the sign the Moon was in at the moment of your birth. It differs from your Sun sign (the one in English-language horoscopes). To find it you need your birth date, time and place — any kundali software or panchang will work it out. Without a birth time, date and place still get you there in most cases; the only uncertainty is if the Moon changed sign that day.

Our daily panchang lists the Moon's sign and nakshatra for each day, along with where Mars is sitting.
