Ganesh
Ganesh is the son of Shiv and Parvati, lord of the ganas, and Vighnaharta — the remover of obstacles. By Shiv's boon he is invoked first in every puja, journey, marriage and new undertaking, which is why he is called Prathamapujya. Wednesday is his weekday and Chaturthi his tithi. Durva grass and modak are dear to him; tulsi is not offered to him at all. The Krishna paksha Sankashti Chaturthi is his monthly vrat, and the Bhadrapada Ganesh Chaturthi his largest festival.
