Hanuman

Hanuman is the son of Anjana and Kesari, born by the grace of Vayu and held in tradition to be an amsha of Rudra. In the Ramayana he is Ram's messenger — the one who crossed the ocean to find Sita in Lanka, and who carried a whole mountain when he could not identify the Sanjeevani. His strength was never once used for himself, and that, more than the strength, is what he is worshipped for. Tuesday and Saturday are his weekdays. Sindoor mixed with chameli oil is his chola, boondi laddoo his bhog, and the Hanuman Chalisa and Sundarkand the most widely kept of his practices. In trouble he is called by the name Sankatmochan.
