A strand of natural pyrite beads. Pyrite is an iron sulphide that grows in near-perfect brassy cubes and has been mistaken for gold for as long as people have dug for it. Polished into beads it keeps that metallic sheen, dull brass rather than bright yellow, and it is noticeably heavy for its size. No two strands match exactly; the uneven fracture leaves small matte patches where the polish does not take.

What it is traditionally worn for

Pyrite belongs to the wider mineral tradition rather than to the nine gems of classical jyotisha. You will not find it in the Ratna Shastra beside the ruby or the blue sapphire, and any seller who tells you otherwise is selling.
