Mangala Gauri Vrat
Kept on the Tuesdays of Shravan — by married women for the long life and wellbeing of the husband and the peace of the household, and by unmarried girls for a good marriage. Gauri, Parvati in her gentle and auspicious form, is worshipped with sixteen of everything, and the vrat is traditionally taken for five consecutive years and closed with an udyapan.
Deity: Devi

Bathe early on the Tuesday morning, wear red, green or yellow — the colours of saubhagya — and take the sankalp.,Set a chowki with a red cloth, place an image or a small murti of Gauri on it, and set a kalash of water with mango leaves and a coconut beside it.,Offer the sixteens: sixteen laddoos, sixteen supari, sixteen lavang, sixteen elaichi, sixteen fruits and sixteen malas of flowers. The count is the whole character of this vrat.,Shape a lamp from wheat flour, set sixteen wicks in it, and keep it burning through the puja.,Offer the full solah shringar to Devi and chant the Gauri mantra one hundred and eight times, speaking your wish plainly at the end.,Listen to the Mangala Gauri katha, do the aarti and offer the laddoo bhog.,Keep the day on fruit and milk, take one sattvik meal after the evening aarti, and give the shringar samagri to your mother-in-law or an elder married woman, as the vrat prescribes.katha
Gauri is invoked on this day because of her own tapasya. Having resolved on Shiv and on no one else, she kept an austerity that nothing shifted, and he accepted her at the end of it. A woman who asks her for a good husband, or for the long life of the one she has, is asking the one person who obtained exactly that and obtained it by holding on.
The katha told on the day is of a wealthy merchant who had everything except a child. After long worship a son was granted to him, but with a condition: the boy would live only sixteen years. As the years ran out his parents arranged his marriage early, and the girl chosen for him came from a household where her mother had kept the Mangala Gauri vrat faithfully, every Shravan Tuesday, without missing one.
The boon of that vrat was that the woman's daughter would never be widowed. When the appointed hour came, it could not take the boy. He lived a full life. The merchant's house, which had performed every expensive rite it could pay for and got nothing from any of them, learned that an ordinary woman's unbroken vrat had held where wealth could not.
That is why the vrat is kept for five years without a break and closed with an udyapan. The five years, and not the sixteen laddoos, are the offering.samagri
