Navratri 2026 Day 9: Maa Siddhidatri Puja Vidhi, Havan and Mantra — 19 October
Our panchang puts Navami from 10:52 am on Monday, 19 October 2026 — the same Monday as Ashtami — to 12:50 pm the next day. Maa Siddhidatri's puja vidhi from midday, a simple home havan to seal the vrat, bhog, mantra, and the close of our nine-part series.
With this article, our Navratri 2026 series closes — nine forms, nine days, one article each, from Shailputri on the first morning to today's. The ninth and final form is Maa Siddhidatri, the giver of siddhis, and her day arrives with a wrinkle worth stating plainly: Navami this year does not get a Monday of its own. It begins at 10:52 am on Monday, 19 October — mid-morning of the very day that carries Ashtami — and the whole of Day 9's worship, havan included, sits in that Monday's second half.
Maha Navami 2026: the tithi hours
For Delhi, our panchang gives Navami as:
- Navami begins — Monday, 19 October 2026 at 10:52 am, the moment Ashtami ends
- Navami ends — Tuesday, 20 October 2026 at 12:50 pm
Ashtami holds sunrise on the 19th and runs out mid-morning, so Ashtami and Navami share one Monday: Durga Ashtami's puja in the morning, and Navami's work — Siddhidatri puja, havan, kanya pujan — from midday onward. Why the two tithis compress into one date this year is a question of tithi arithmetic, and we have answered it separately in why Ashtami and Navami fall on the same day. The other end of the window matters too: Tuesday the 20th still carries Navami until 12:50 pm — which decides paran for many families, as we come to below — and Vijayadashami is kept that same Tuesday afternoon.
Sunset in Delhi on the 19th is 5:46 pm, so the working window for Siddhidatri's worship is roughly midday to late afternoon — about five unhurried hours. Sunrise and sunset shift by city; if you are elsewhere, check your own tithi timings before fixing the havan hour.
Who Maa Siddhidatri is
The Devi Kavach closes its list with her: navamam Siddhidatri cha, navadurgah prakirtitah — the ninth is Siddhidatri, and thus the nine Durgas are told. Her name is her work: siddhi + datri, she who gives attainment. The tradition counts the eight classical siddhis in her gift — anima, mahima, garima, laghima, prapti, prakamya, ishitva and vashitva — and shows her seated on a fully opened lotus, a lion beneath her, four arms carrying gada, chakra, shankha and kamal.
What sets her apart in the sequence is who her worshippers are. The forms before her are worshipped by devotees; Siddhidatri, the texts say, is served by devas, gandharvas, yakshas, asuras and siddhas alike — her own mantra is simply that list. Even the gods come to the ninth form as seekers. The eight days before this one were the sadhana; the ninth is its fruit.
The katha, in brief
The story the navadurga tradition tells is short. At the beginning of things, Shiva worshipped Adi Shakti, the unmanifest Devi. She appeared as Siddhidatri, and by her grace the eight siddhis came to him; from her, too, the tradition derives the Ardhanarishwara form — the Devi as the left half of Shiva's own body. The katha is repeated across vrat-katha collections and the Devi-Bhagavata tradition; as always, we would rather call a katha a katha than dress it up as a citation. What it is doing is clear enough: if even Mahadeva is shown as her worshipper, then no one — however far along — is past the need for sadhana.
Puja vidhi on 19 October — from midday
The vidhi is the same simple frame the whole series has used, with one adjustment: the clock.
- Finish Ashtami's morning worship first — Mahagauri's puja belongs to the hours before 10:52 am.
- After 10:52 am, bathe or wash, and take sankalp for Navami naming Maa Siddhidatri.
- Offer the usual upachara at your kalash-sthapana: jal, roli, akshat, flowers — kamal or any purple flower suits the day — dhoop and deep.
- Recite her dhyana or the mantra below; those doing full path can read that day's adhyays of the Durga Saptashati.
- Place the bhog, do aarti, and move to the havan — which on Navami is not an extra but the point.
The navami havan: the vrat's seal
The nine days are treated by the tradition as one continuous vrat, and the navami havan is its seal — the purnahuti of the whole nine-day effort, after which kanya pujan and paran follow. A home havan needs no priest and no scale; it needs care with fire and about forty-five minutes.
- The kund. A small havan kund set on bricks in a ventilated spot; a thick kadhai or metal thali layered with sand serves a flat perfectly well.
- The fire. Aam ki lakdi — dry mango wood — is the standard fuel, lit with kapoor and a spoon of ghee.
- The samagri. A ready havan-samagri mix from any puja shop, folded with jau, til and a little ghee.
- The ahutis. The household standard is the navarna mantra — ॐ ऐं ह्रीं क्लीं चामुण्डायै विच्चे स्वाहा — offered 108 times, a pinch of samagri at each svaha. Families who do Saptashati havan offer ahutis on the shlokas of one adhyay instead; a full Saptashati havan is a priest-scale undertaking, and the navarna 108 is a complete and honest home form. Our Durga Saptashati path vidhi covers how the adhyays divide.
- Siddhidatri's ahutis. Offer a few ahutis with her own mantra (below), adding svaha.
- Purnahuti. A dry coconut (gola) wrapped in red cloth with supari and a spoon of ghee, offered whole as the fire's last offering.
- Close. Aarti, kshama-prarthana, and a tilak of the cooled bhasma if your family keeps that custom. Let the fire die fully; the cooled ash goes to a plant or flowing water, not the dustbin.
Any hour while Navami runs will serve — between midday and sunset (5:46 pm) on the 19th is the comfortable band, and the havan can precede or follow kanya pujan by your family's habit. Rahu kaal governs the launching of new undertakings; a vrat's own havan on its own tithi is not blocked by it, but if your family prefers to avoid the period, check rahu kaal for your city.
Bhog and the mantra
The day-wise bhog lists give til — sesame — for the ninth day: til laddoo, or til folded into the naivedya. Alongside it stands the bhog most homes actually cook on Navami, halwa, puri and kale chane, which doubles as the kanya pujan meal. Offer either or both; the day-wise list is a widely printed custom, not a shastra table, and nothing is lost by cooking what your kitchen has always cooked on this day.
Her mantra:
सिद्धगन्धर्वयक्षाद्यैरसुरैरमरैरपि।
सेव्यमाना सदा भूयात् सिद्धिदा सिद्धिदायिनी॥
She who is ever served by siddhas, gandharvas, yakshas, asuras and the immortals alike — may Siddhidatri, the giver of siddhis, ever be gracious. One mala — 108 repetitions — during or after the puja is the usual measure.
The colour of the ninth day
Two lists circulate, and they disagree politely. The form-based lists most Hindi almanacs print give the ninth day purple; the weekday cycle followed widely in Maharashtra gives this Monday peacock green. The colour is a custom of participation, not a rule of shastra — wear either, and nothing about the puja changes.
Kanya pujan, the same afternoon
For families who keep kanya pujan on Navami rather than Ashtami, this year that means Monday afternoon — after 10:52 am, with the kanyas fed before the household eats. The full vidhi, the age rule, and the ashtami-versus-navami question are laid out in our kanya pujan guide for 19 October.
Navami paran or dashami paran — honestly
Three practices exist, and none of them is wrong.
- Many households break the nine-day fast on the 19th itself, after havan and kanya pujan — the vrat's purposes are complete.
- Many hold it while Navami runs and do paran on Tuesday morning, 20 October — Navami lasts until 12:50 pm, so a morning paran that day is fully within the tithi.
- Some parampara wait until after Vijayadashami's puja that Tuesday afternoon — those timings are in our Vijayadashami 2026 guide.
The rule that binds you is your family's habit; the tithi hours above are simply the frame it operates in.
Nine forms, one arc
Walk the sequence once and it reads as a single sadhana. Shailputri is the resolve that starts it — the mountain's daughter, the vow taken. Brahmacharini is the long discipline; Chandraghanta the courage that discipline earns; Kushmanda the creative force it releases; Skandamata that force turned to nurture. Katyayani is the warrior the path produces, Kalratri the night in which fear itself dies, Mahagauri the purity on the far side of that night — and Siddhidatri is the attainment the first eight were always walking toward. The series closes here; the vrat closes with your havan; and tomorrow afternoon Vijayadashami carries the whole month's work out of the ghar and into the world.
